Coeliacs Food Fair (other gluten/wheat intolerants welcome)
Saturday 27th April
Parkstone Grammar School
What was a near disaster (being told at 14.04 at ‘The Living Room’ that the kitchen closed for food at 2pm) turned into a damn good thing. I remembered that Kharissa had posted on the Bournemouth & Poole Coeliac Group facebook page about a French crepe place. Nestled in a corner of Westbourne in Bournemouth is Crepe Farm (128 Poole Road) and a delicious slice of France it is too. All the crepes are buckwheat so naturally gluten free. We went with savoury choices – the mushrooms and spinach was divine I can tell you. Incredibly tasty. £5.40 for the crepe. We’ll be back for sure. Recommended highly although could be more filling so may be you need a sweet one afterwards ;-). Thanks Kharissa x
Update on Sunday 23 December: we went again today with my in-laws. The tartiflette is gluten free and they had some vegetarian ones ready made up so Andrew had one and his mum, who had bacon on top of hers. They were very happy with them and it is rare his mum finishes everything as she feels so ill lately that she can barely manage to eat but it really hit the spot for her. It was also very hot all the way through which she loves. Thank you Crepe Farm for the pleasure of seeing Enid polish off something.
We’re on a gluten free tasting panel and they need more volunteers in Bournemouth and near by. We love it as we get free gluten free food like pizza, veggie bakes, fish cakes and lasagna in return for critical feedback to help the factory improve their frozen recipes for their own brand Georgia’s (GF chicken nuggets using real chicken already in Asda & Tescos). The lady who owns the company lives in Bournemouth too and her autistic daughter is gluten intolerant. She’s on a mission to make GF food easy and healthy. She wants to do Saturday afternoon events in Bournemouth where you can bring the family too and otherwise can drop off boxes at your home too. Would be great if you could donate your taste buds. Owned by Frances who is wheat and lactose intolerant herself. In your room you will find home made gluten free biscuits. For breakfast they have everything gluten free in the cooked breakfast (inc hash browns) and she also makes gluten free pancakes.
Jane’s husband is a celiac so they always have gluten free bread (presented fried as part of the cooked breakfast and available as toast) and sausages available. GF cereal is available by request. Very popular is their French toast with bacon and maple syrup.
Karen used to be a nurse so fully appreciates gluten sensitivity. On request she will provide a gluten free breakfast and has a toaster dedicated to gluten free bread to avoid cross contamination.
This friendly BnB will provide a gluten free breakfast for those booking in as gluten free.
